Nalanda has ever been an excellent place for education. The ancient ‘Nalanda university’ has been historically renowned for its teaching and learning. Especially, Pawapuri, about ten kilometres far from Nalanda, is known as the ‘NIRWAN BHOOMI’ (land of salvation) of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara’ of Jainism.

Pawapuri in a place of historical, religious and cultural importance’s. It is situated at Patna-Ranchi Highway (NH-20) about ten kilometres away from the district headquarters ‘Bihar Sharif’.

Vardhman Mahavir College popularly known as V.M.College was founded in Pawapuri in 1979 by a renowned business man and educationist late ‘Ram Sanehi Babu’ and then Deputy Chief Minister of West Bengal ‘ Vijay Singh Nahar’ . Besides, the villagers of Pawa, Puri and adjacent villages also co-operated their best in establishment of this college.

V.M. College has been recognized by UGC, New Delhi, Under 2(f) and 12 (B) of U.G.C. Act 1956. It is affiliated to Patliputra University, Patna and permanently approved by the Government of Bihar.

Basically, the college is located in a rural area where thousands of the school-passed boys and girls students were declined of higher education due to lack of a degree college in the locality. The college initiated with tens and now thousands of girls’ and boys’ students’ study in this college and brightening their careers.
